"This was a serious attack that could have brought down the plane, killed hundreds, and impacted travel across the US. It failed because we were lucky - not because we were good," commented homeland security expert Dr. Dave McIntyre, in talking to WTOP radio in Washington, DC today.
"Recent amateur attacks by homegrown copycats may have lulled us into a false sense of security," added the former director of the Texas A&M Integrative Center for Homeland Security. "This guy was using a serious explosive, prepared in a professional way, sent from overseas for a Christmas attack in US airspace. This had all the makings of a disaster."
McIntyre has more than 22 years of experience as a national strategist and specialist in national security, and has been working homeland security issues for a decade. He is available through the contact information listed here in this email for comment on other aspects of the attack, to include watch lists, passenger checks, and explosive materials detection.
