“HAWK” CROWS OVER PORK DEAL WITH TURKEYS

“HAWK” CROWS OVER PORK DEAL WITH TURKEYS

“It was like a bizarre edition of Animal Planet,” commented Dave McIntyre, in reviewing dueling press releases from Representative Chet Edwards. “The headline should be ‘When Animal Metaphors Go Bad.’”

McIntyre, candidate in the March Republican primary to oppose Chet Edwards for  the US House of Representatives in the November 2010 general election, was referring to a flurry of press releases from Edwards’ office recently.

“First, after supporting big spending bill after big spending bill for nearly two decades, he suddenly rechristened himself a ‘Deficit Hawk.’  Then he crowed about all the designated spending he is bringing to the district."

“But everybody knows that he got these earmarks by trading votes with the turkeys in Congress, who just pushed through more than 5,000 earmarks for pet projects costing nearly $4 billion. True, the projects in our district appear generally useful. But we are spending billions to get back a few million.  And that’s not chicken feed."

“This is money we don’t have,” emphasized McIntyre.  “It was borrowed from the future, adding to the $1.4 trillion deficit this year, and the $12 trillion debt overall.  I would expect a ‘Deficit Hawk’ to fight against Congressional pork, not for it.”

“Joking aside,” concluded McIntyre, “this is serious business.  The looming national debt could collapse our nation. Even a bird brain knows this has to stop.”
